← Google Tools MCP

160 tools. Nothing held back.

Every tool is registered the moment the server starts. There is no discovery step, no plugin to enable, and no tier that unlocks the rest. This is the whole surface as of google-tools-mcp 3.4.4.

From inside the agent

You don’t have to keep this page open.

The server documents itself, and it does it in three sizes so an agent doesn’t have to swallow the manual to check one argument name.

help

The whole manual, around 39,000 characters. Reach for it last.

help listTools: true

Just the registered names, one per line.

help tool: "readDocument"

One tool’s description and argument schema, around 3,000 characters, rendered the same way the protocol publishes it. Reach for this first.

The catalog, grouped the way the server groups it.

Maps

Google Maps Platform · 6 tools

Geocoding both directions, nearby and text place search, place details, and directions.

Needs a Google Maps Platform API key in GOOGLE_MAPS_API_KEY, separate from the OAuth credentials and not covered by the setup wizard. Without it these tools still appear, and calling one returns an error naming the Cloud API to enable.

On the names

Why a few of them look different.

Gmail and Calendar tools were renamed to camelCase in 3.0, and the rarely-used Gmail account settings were folded into dispatch tools that take a resource and an action rather than existing as forty near-identical entries. Forms kept its original snake_case names.

Every old snake_case name still works, forwarding to the new implementation, but the aliases are not registered by default: loading all 72 of them alongside the new names would grow the tool surface the rename existed to shrink. Set GOOGLE_MCP_ENABLE_LEGACY_ALIASES=true if something you have already written calls them.

This package also replaces the older gdrive-tools-mcp and gmail-tools-mcp. Replace both entries with this one and re-authenticate; the combined server uses its own config directory.

Worked examples

Which tool to reach for, in the order that keeps your data.

The read-before-write guard makes these sequences the fast path, not a chore. Skip the read and the write is refused anyway.

Rewrite a Google Doc without losing anything

  1. 01

readDocument with format markdown. It saves a local working copy and warns you about anything markdown can’t represent, such as images and footnotes, naming exactly what a full push would remove.

  2. 02

Edit the local file instead of pasting content back inline.

  3. 03

replaceDocumentWithMarkdown with filePath. The write is pinned to the revision that was read, so a collaborator’s newer edit fails the write instead of being overwritten.

Rewrite one section, leave the rest alone

  1. 01

readDocument with format index for a structural map, or address the section by its heading and skip the read.

  2. 02

replaceRangeWithMarkdown with dryRun true to confirm the resolved range and see whether anything unrepresentable sits inside it.

  3. 03

Run it again without dryRun. The section runs to the next heading of the same or shallower level, and fidelity is checked only inside the range, so images elsewhere in the document don’t block the rewrite.

Send email the way you would want an agent to

  1. 01

createDraft when the message should be read before it goes, which is most of the time.

  2. 02

replyMessage rather than hand-built thread headers. It assembles the headers correctly and keeps the conversation intact.

  3. 03

sendMessage only after the recipients, subject, and body are confirmed. The body takes plain text or HTML.

Before a delete or an overwrite, read the object and confirm its identifier. deleteFile moves a Drive file to the trash by default, and setting permanent is not reversible. Deleted messages, task lists, slides, and document content may not be recoverable through this server at all.
